Be one, get one.

Last week I made an important stop in my hometown of Winnetka: New Trier High School. As I spoke to the Women in Business Club, I reflected on the women (and men!) who inspired my journey into business—some of whom taught me in that very building. To make a mentorship relationship successful, make it easy for the mentor by keeping in touch consistently and meeting when convenient for them. Being a good mentor is just as important as having one: it’s never too early to start paying it forward.

Grateful for being featured as a speaker for New Trier’s Women in Business Club.

Hack of the Week

Leadership Hack #45: Clarify what you’re looking for in a mentor. And ask your mentors what they want out of the relationship. This will help you establish early on the “playbook” for the mentorship: who’s getting what from whom.

Bonus Hack: In keeping with the Valentine’s Day spirit, don’t forget Life Hack #83: Write More Love Letters.
