Take Time To Connect As Humans.

Even before COVID-19, I was often asked for advice on how to lead and stay connected with a largely remote team. The advice I gave then resonates even more now that all our meetings and events have gone digital: Leadership Hack #63: Take a few minutes to connect as human beings before you get going. It’s your job to know your people as more than talking heads. If you connect on a human level first, the conversation will be more productive and harmonious on all levels.

Ideally, I recommend pairing this hack with the one I open Hacks for the New World: How to Live and Work in the Age of Sheltering-at-Home—and Beyond with: Leadership Hack #1: Leverage video technology tools for “face-to-face” meetings. While there is no substitute for looking people in the whites of their eyes, looking people in the whites of their eyes through a screen is better than nothing.
