Communicating in the Remote Era

This week, I joined the Yale Alumni Association for an episode of their new online series: Yale Alumni LIVE. We started the conversation with my journey at and after Yale, the inspiration for Hacks for the New World, and the perks of local field trips (as featured on CBS Chicago), and then pivoted to the leadership section of the book.

I commend the YAA for creating virtual spaces for alumni to connect, thus embracing Leadership Hack #5: Think and act entrepreneurially and Leadership Hack #11: Turn any physical value proposition digital that you can. While those hacks are critical for businesses to survive during these tumultuous times, the hack for leaders I keep revisiting is the importance of overcommunicating vs undercommunicating. From scheduling virtual happy hours to gathering regular town halls, I hope this hack’s reprise this week inspires you to find your ways to stay in touch with your people.

Hack of the Week

Leadership Hack #9: Overcommunicate versus undercommunicate with your people before, during, and after a crisis.
