Cook Together.

We have had a ball dressing up old favorites and creating new recipes. Here are some of the young-child-friendly cooking activities we have enjoyed in the first several weeks of sheltering-at-home to get you started. And if you need more inspiration, check out these recipes from Chef Marlène!

Recipe Hacks for Sheltering at Home

1. Crêpe (new twist: add blueberries!)

  •  1.5 cup milk
  •  1 cup flour
  •  3 eggs
  • (Optional) Dash of sugar, dash of vanilla

Instructions: Mix all ingredients together, carefully removing all lumps. Pour 2/3 cup of batter at a time into a hot, greased pan, spreading evenly so thin. When pancake congeals, flip. Put fruit (blueberries!), sugar, etc. (some people like to add savory things like cheese and meats and vegetables instead) into the middle. Roll, slice, and serve!

2. Homemade Pizza

  • Pre-made dough or make your own
  • Tomato sauce
  • Shredded cheese

Instructions: Knead and roll pizza dough out onto a floured surface. Spread tomato or spaghetti sauce across pizza dough. Add your favorite shredded cheeses. Cook for 12-15 minutes at 400 degrees. Enjoy!
Twist*: Want a twist on a traditional margherita pizza? Roll it once made for a DIY calzone (as featured above). Delicious and different. Same cooking instructions apply.

3. Smoothies of All Shapes and Sizes.

  • Milk
  • Yogurt
  • Natural sweetener (raw sugar, honey, jam, etc.)
  • Favorite fruits
  • Ice
  • (Optional) (Vegan) Protein powder

Instructions: Add to blender, blend, and pour!

4. Life Hack #101: Eat More Quinoa.

And obviously, no Snack Hack would be the same without reprising the ultimate hack from Leadership and Life HacksIn the Covid-19 era, we continue to have a piece of Tupperware with sprouted quinoa simmered in vegetable broth in our refrigerator at all times. It is the perfect pairing with eggs for breakfast, on salad for lunch, with feta and cherry tomatoes, olive oil, salt, and pepper for a snack, et al.
