January 11, 2025, was one of the more unusual days of my life. Hal and I were hosting a memorial luncheon for Douglas Rapp, father to Anne, Adam, Anthony, Alyssa, and Jeff Rapp who passed away on Christmas Eve 2024. The gathering of the Rapps was warm, heartfelt, and lovely and a proper sendoff. Meanwhile, our beloved stepfather, Daniel Levin passed away in the same day.
 
Words can hardly express the depth of sadness associated with losing someone who has served as your mentor, sponsor and father figure for over 30 years. To quote Maya Angelou, if “your legacy is every life you have touched,” Dan’s impact on all the residents, East Bank Club members and employees, investors, civic leaders, and friends in the city of Chicago and beyond is frankly too vast to count. The following obituaries of him begin to pay tribute to his indelible impact on the world. May his pursuit of justice, socially minded entrepreneurship, and his never-ending generosity be an inspiration to us all.
